Waiting …. waiting

Waiting to head to Winfield, and anticipating being there for the duration is so annoying … as I set here at this computer we have 5 more working days before we can leave.   We do plan on going down for the weekend so a least it we get to break up the waiting.  Just knowing that some of our friends are already there and having fun even makes the waiting harder.  But soon enough we will be there reveling in the moment … then it will be over … and then the waiting begins all over again.  Tick tock …. tick tock …. this clock moves so slow … tick ………… tock …………………………….. tick ………………… (sigh)  See you all soon.

Listening in …

I’m always humbled by the nice, unsolicited things folks say about the little niche that we carved out of the Pecan Grove.  The link below is written by Mark Foley from KMUW radio in Wichita, KS.  KMUW is the NPR affiliate in Wichita and Southcentral Kansas.  There is a really nice picture of Split Lip Rayfield in the article too.

Thank you Mark.

In other news of the day … Labor Day is always a staging day for us.  We move something to Winfield or closer to Winfield every year on Labor Day.  So this year we moved the old Chevy truck a little closer to the fair grounds (since our camper is already there) and parked it in the back forty of some friends property.  We arrived there with no problems and the new brakes worked perfectly, we are really excited for the final leg of the journey.  See everyone in a few days!!!!

Pecan Grove Memories

Just got home from the Cowley County Fairgrounds Pecan Grove where we spent the night picking and singing with friends.  Ran into some folks from the Comfortable Shoes Camp who shared some pictures from last year with us.  In 2011 I became aware that longtime Comfortable Shoes Camp member Moose had basically lost everything in the May 22nd 2011 Joplin, Missouri tornado.  Knowing that Moose was a collector of Stage 5 picks and other memorabilia, I took the opportunity to replace his complete collection last year (2012).  It was a small gesture on my part but Moose was overwhelmed … he cried … I cried, then we shook hands and laughed about how this collection must continue to grow. Wanted to share the pictures and a link to the Comfortable Shoes Camp web page … they have a lot of fun down there.   http://www.shoescamp.com

Stopping

IMG_1111Being able to stop is a good thing when you are heading down the highway .. and after several hours and quite a few dollars Stage 5 can now stop again.  (Believe me when I say that when the pedal is depressed and gets stuck on the floor and you roll right on by your intended turn … well you get the picture)  Thanks to Art Charlet and Craig Barber for all of their help and to the Brake Shop, Bowtie Bits and O’Riellys Auto Parts for having the stuff we needed to complete the project.  New brake shoe linings, wheel cylinders and flexible brake lines on the front wheels .. new wheel cylinders and springs on the back and a new master cylinder and lots of fluid and pumping the pedal.  Additionally, Stage 5 got a new battery this year … because starting is good too.

Lining up

Haven’t posted out here for quite a while but the season is beginning to turn and that means we are beginning to turn our sights to music festivals .. Winfield, KS and Guthrie, OK are two towns on our list for this year.  As we already have our spot in line at the Cowley County Fairgrounds in Winfield.  Went down last night and did some picking with friends and also picked with some new friends.  It is such a cool fellowship of musicians under the pecan trees along the Walnut River in Winfield.  So the line up begins as does the fun .. hope to see all our friends soon.  Have a great and safe Labor Day weekend and if you call and we are not home … we will be in Winfield … our September home away from home.
